Review
After reading the Lacey Flint series, Sharon Bolton quickly became one of my favourite authors. I can’t tell you how excited I was to finally read Daisy in Chains. I had high expectations for this book and it did not disappoint! I finished it within a few days, I simply couldn’t put it down.

Daisy in Chains tells the story of Hamish Wolfe, a convicted serial killer, lawyer and true crime author Maggie Rose and detective Pete Weston. The book grabbed my attention from the first few pages. First of all, Hamish seems to receive a lot of love letters from women. It makes you wonder why they’d fall for a convicted killer. But Hamish is charming and persuasive, and whether you believe he’s guilty or not, it is easy to see why women would want to reach out to him.

Maggie is known for overturning the convictions of murderers. Does she take on Hamish’ case? Could Hamish be innocent? If so, who is the real killer? Each chapter raises more questions and I couldn’t wait for the answers. There was one major plot twist that I guessed halfway through the story, but there was so much more to it that I was still surprised by the ending.

Bolton does a good job writing complex characters, and Maggie is no exception. I especially enjoyed the parts where she visits Hamish in prison. Their interaction was definitely interesting. One of the things that stood out to me is the use of letters and newspaper articles, this added to the story and revealed clues. I liked having information from different sources, especially because I wasn’t sure if I could trust any of the main characters.

Daisy in Chains is a great read full of twists and turns. I love Bolton’s writing style, she keeps you guessing and just when you think you’ve figured it out, there’s another twist coming. I highly recommend this book!
